Wow, OCTOBER!!! Why is the time flying by so freaking fast???
This morning was a pretty good ride again. I left late once again (I guess I’m just not counting the extra time to bundle up for the colder weather yet). However, if I leave much earlier it will soon be too dark to see anything… I NEED MY LIGHT SOON DAPEDALER (2347) POWER SELLER!!! Sheesh…
Anyways, as I left late again I didn’t see Brian. But I did feel good physically today as well (what’s with this, no bad morning ride this week?), so I had a pretty good pace through Juniper and Rose Hill. I took the “cliff” down again at the end of the single-track (just at Frolek’s east gate) which was cool! I ended up shedding the jacket today, even though the temperature was the same, at the top of the climb between Frolek’s lower and upper roads. I even dumped the leather gloves. Not sure why I would be warmer today, but regardless I was! Unfortunately, I forgot my glasses in the pocket of my jacket and never bothered to stop and get them, just let the eyes water like crazy on the down hills and fast sections!
Not much to report on this ride. I had to plant my foot on the 90° corner/dip/rocky section of single-track, but I made a nice section down into Peterson’s Creek, through the creek, and once again I made the technical climb up the west bank! I think that’s 5 for 5 this week? It wasn’t as smooth of an effort as my last couple, but a win is a win!
As I was climbing up Tom Moore just below the wood boardwalk I met up with Rosco (black lab puppy) and his owner (haven’t caught her name yet) again. I stopped and said hello to them and she told me that she came around a corner on this trail last night and came within 10 feet of a black bear… Yikes! Thankfully, she said Rosco took off after the bear and chased it down the hill into Peterson’s Creek valley. She decided she didn’t need to hike after all and turned around and went home after that (no kidding!). The benefits of having a big dog!
The rest of the ride was good, clear and sunny skies once again (what a gorgeous week!) and no wind. But, I do need to oil this chain, it was pretty noisy today! I guess I just need to get into the habit of doing that mid-week so I don’t get to this point. I just seem to forget about it ‘till I’m riding…
