September 16th (Morning)

There was a constant drizzle all night, so the ground was pretty wet this morning. But, that’s what I love about this neck of the woods. The trails are still dry as far as mud is concerned. No mud, no puddles. Just wetter sand than usual… Hah! Smile with tongue out The clouds were still quite thick when I left, meaning that there was very dim lighting and I was wishing for at least my headlight already!

The ride was good, but I was feeling some of the aftermath of all the sprinting I did yesterday. Still, I stood and cranked through Juniper where I normally spin, and again on Summit drive and Howe Road! It was a fun ride, but I did NOT make the rocky dip/corner on the single-track today (hit the pedal on a rock). Then, I also didn’t make the west bank of Peterson’s Creek. In fact, I just about did an endo coming down the east bank (a bit wet and slippery), and with my glasses on and the dim lighting (even worse at the creek where there was so much tree cover), I completely messed up my line crossing and climbing and couldn’t get it back in line. Well, I guess that’s the point of a trail with challenges. If I can make every challenge easily, it’s time to find a new challenge so I guess I’m right where I should be right now!

Ok, before I sign off today I have to show you this bike I found online (clearance). It’s an ‘09 Scott Scale 50 from BDHBikes.com (Canadian company). Normally priced at $1600, right now they’re selling it off at $1099.95. It is a SWEET bike! Sure, it’s a 26er hardtail (which is what I have right now), but the specs are pretty awesome! If I can afford a bike like this and can line up a killer deal, I’m hoping to do that this fall/winter for next year’s riding season (and probably many years to come). Maybe I can get a 29er for a great deal, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled. For the same price, a 26er hardtail is going to have WAY better componentry than a 29er hardtail or a full suspension, so that might be a deciding factor right there.
