May 3rd, 2010 (Morning)
Good ride this morning! There are warnings about 90km/h winds this morning, but luckily for me those winds didn’t decide to make their appearance while I was on the bike! My time to Lansdowne was 18.5min, my best yet, and I felt really good (3:8 combo pretty much the whole way from when I got onto the paved streets). Coming out of Juniper was really good, but I still walked the steep down section at the beginning. Man I’m a wuss still... The rest was really fast. Maybe a bit too fast, as I was cornering at the end just before getting into Valleyview and lost traction and slid sideways a bit! Oops! But, I stayed upright and kept going so no harm done! The double-track was very firm, though, with very little give and as I have my tires cranked up to 60psi, they don’t have much give either. So hard leaning in corners maybe isn’t a great idea with that combination! Next time, I’ll use the banked corner (I tried cutting it short this morning). But, man, I just can’t get over how much fun this little stretch is! I’m starting to consider riding to Peterson’s creek in the mornings, and then heading down to the bus still for 7:15am, but with the logging going on at Frolek’s land and this great section of trail I’m enjoying so much, I think I’ll wait ‘till at least the end of the month.
Coming up from TRU was tough still, but I felt like I was spinning faster than normal (probably the Monday rested legs again). I tried a short little section of single-track that follows Hillside drive up from the Notre Dame intersection to the mall. Not sure which I like better, the steady constant climb of the paved street, or the lower incline of the trail (easier riding), only to be confronted with the short, steep section at the end to make it up to the mall. In the end, I still end up at the same point, so the amount of climbing distance is the same really. But the trail climb was tough (standing on the pedals) and I was breathing quite hard and really feeling it when I got back up on the sidewalk.
Checked my weight this morning, I’m down 8lbs now from when I started (I’m now at 240lbs). Pretty cool! My hope is that I can hit 220, really. I have no desire to be scrawny at all, just a healthy weight and I think 220 is still good. Small enough to be healthy, but still big enough to be intimidating... :) Hahaha!
