July 14th (Morning)
A cool 10° this morning when I left, but the sun was bright and the skies were clear, so I knew it wouldn’t be long before I would warm up! Again, I felt good this morning. This is now the 3rd day in a row of feeling good, 4th if you include Friday’s ride home as well. Normally my Tuesday’s or Wednesday’s are a bit more “lazy” as tired and sore muscles start to whine and complain. However, I was able to keep some decent paces throughout the morning’s ride, so that is encouraging. My total ride time was only 61.5 minutes, my best time since the first day of riding the entire way into work.
I made all the hills again at the pipeline section at Rose Hill. In fact, I checked and I hit 45km/h down the first hill! What’s a bit crazy about that is that a piece of dirt got flung into my eye, so I was half blind cruising down and back up the other side... Frolek’s land was not bad, I was able to hold some higher speeds than normal through the corners, but still not where I think I should be. Getting better though! Going down into Peterson’s Creek was great, of course! Minus the fact that someone went down last night and ripped it up pretty good. Thankfully this side of Peterson’s Creek is pretty wide at most places, so I was able to avoid the ditches they so brilliantly created. Up the other side was another really good effort, 2 stops again! I made a good distance up the first stretch (actually started into the switchback before stopping, where I normally stop just at the bottom about 10 feet earlier). I again made it right through the sandy straight section as I did yesterday, as with the rain we had again traction is still quite good considering it is sand.
I found a map of Peterson’s Creek trails last night (finally, thanks Kamloops!). The good news is that I knew there was another trail through the canyon above the falls, but I had no idea where it was or where it went. So, with this map, I found that trail and I’m pretty sure it’s a doable trail. I’m going to try to find it today on my way home. I will have to go up Monarch and cut across Gleneagles and then I’ll have a little climb up Summit ‘till my entrance. However, after that it should be a good ride I think. It might not even add that much extra to my trip, and if the trail is better, it may become my new route. We’ll see, but I’m excited to try something different here for sure!
Springhill and Hugh Allan were good, but I felt like my saddle was very hard... ??? Have these new shorts already “lost that lovin’ feeling”? Nope! I checked them after I got changed, and low and behold the padding from one side had moved over, meaning one butt cheek was enjoying double the padding, while the other had none! Uff da... Yep, fixed that now so it should be good again. I guess no more machine washing for the liner...
July 13th (Afternoon)
No riding today.
Corrie was at Dave and Esther’s at 4:30 and had to come by work here anyways to pick something up, so I hitched a ride down with her. Which was good, as this allowed us to get into Hub Insurance and put 3 more months of insurance on the truck. For some reason Corrie doesn’t think she can bike with four kids around town getting groceries and what not... Well, OK then! ;)
