So, as I was wasting time today, I found a couple of neat items that I just MUST have on my bike soon. I’m sure these items will speed up my ride times and make my rides safer as well, OK honey???
Well, first of all I found these cool bar ends. A really neat design, with a “thumb groove” at the top! Carbon fibre, which is cool, but I’m not sure about the straight extension bar ends. I like the idea of having an extra bend in the at the top to try and avoid hooking trees and branches! Either way, 50 loonies will need to find their way into my piggy bank soon.
Secondly, I also found this funky handlebar/stem combo, also made out of carbon fibre. One piece system, that looks very unique. I would not have a belly button bike for sure with these on there! Granted, this will set me back 150 loonies, so I’ll need a bigger piggy bank, not to mention a faster way to get money into said piggy bank!
Both of these items were found on eBay, and they’re made in Taiwan. Being carbon fibre, I am a bit hesitant to trust them, not being a name brand and all. The bar ends I wouldn’t be too concerned about (I’m not hammering down rocky, bumpy hills with my hands on them, I’m grabbing the handlebar and brakes for dear life!), so they wouldn’t receive the same stress and strain. And, if they did break, I would probably be able to save a potential crash. The handle bar, on the other hand, not so much! If this thing snapped as I was cruising 45km/h down the Rose Hill pipeline section hills, I’d be toast! My face would be munching front tire, as my chest was swallowing whatever stem and handlebar there was left… Yikes, not a good thought. So, in the end, as cool as these items are, I will most likely go with a tried and true item… sigh…
